“The best thing is the feeling you get in St. Mary’s Church”

St. Mary’s Church has been a part of Helsingborg since the 1400’s. The Church is home to an altarpiece from 1450, a pulpit from the 1600’s, and many other treasures, including an epitaph to the daughter of astronomer Tycho Brahe. The church is open every day between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The renovation of the altarpiece at St. Mary’s Church

The large altarpiece at St. Mary’s Church has been in place for more than 560 years. In 2016 it was renovated by Johanna Nessow and Matilda Thorlund Brönmark, of the painting restoration firm Skånes Målerikonservatorer. Here, Johanna describes the work that has been done and explains some of the considerations that must be taken into account when restoring such an old piece.
