A general introduction which explains what community-based MHPSS is, and why it is a particularly effective way to strengthen mental health and psychosocial wellbeing. It also gives some examples and links to useful resources for further exploration.

Introduction to MHPSS guidelines, standards & resources

Reviews the key guidelines and standards used in the MHPSS field, beginning with the Guidelines on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support in Emergencies developed in 2007, through to the MHPSS Minimum Service Package developed in 2023, and the period in between.

Integrating MHPSS into other sectors

An overview of how MHPSS approaches can be integrated into programmes in any sector (e.g. education, health, livelihoods). It covers the rationale for this approach, and gives some examples, before offering some practical guidance on how this can be done.

Introduction to planning and evaluating MHPSS programmes

An introduction to key concepts around: (a) planning MHPSS programmes (developing outcomes and indicators) and (b) monitoring and evaluating the effects of MHPSS programmes.

There is an emphasis on mixed methods and participatory approaches to identifying MHPSS outcomes and indicators, and some ways of measuring change.

Faith-Sensitive Humanitarian Response and MHPSS

The Faith-Sensitive Humanitarian Response Mental Health and Psychosocial Support online learning module was developed in collaboration between the ACT Alliance, the Joint Learning Initiative on Faith & Local Communities (JLI), Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW), and the DCA Learning Lab. 

The purpose of the module is to give the learner an understanding of the relevance of faith to individuals’ and communities’ capacity to cope with mental health and psychosocial challenges in humanitarian emergencies. It is based on "A Faith-sensitive Approach in Humanitarian Response: Guidance on Mental Health and Psychosocial Programming", and includes examples from various contexts.
