The Church of Sweden Research Department

The Church of Sweden Research Department conducts strategic research in close collaboration with universities and other higher education institutes in Sweden and abroad.

The task is to support the Church of Sweden in its theological and strategic reflections on its identity and on its national and international surroundings.

The Research Department consists of a head of research and a group of full-time researchers. The work of the research group is required by both the Central Church Office and the dioceses, universities, the public and media. 

The tasks of the Research Department include:

  • Publishing its research

  • Giving lectures and themed seminars

  • Arranging seminars for others working on research within the Church of Sweden

  • Research in collaboration with universities and other higher education institutes

  • The Central Church Office also has an Analysis Unit, where a further two researchers are employed to analyse the Church of Sweden's business statistics and the various kinds of sociological studies it undertakes.

Church of Sweden Research Series

CSRS is a peer reviewed research series issued under the auspices of the Church of Sweden Research Department. The books presents theological and human right reflections from primarily the Nordic country's (perspectives).
