Frequently Asked Questions

Here are answers to some common questions about the Church of Sweden and Solna parish, what we do and how you can take part in our community.

What is the Church of Sweden?

The Church of Sweden is a Lutheran Christian church and Sweden's largest faith community. It has been part of Swedish society for a long time and plays a central role in many traditions, cultural events and social initiatives.

Everyone is welcome to attend services, concerts and community activities, regardless of religious beliefs or church membership.

Do I need to be a member to participate?

No, all our activities and church services are open to everyone, whether you are a member or not. You are welcome to visit our open preschools, language cafés, concerts, discussion groups and much more.

How do I become a member of the Church of Sweden?

If you were baptized in the Church of Sweden, you are automatically a member. If you were baptized in another Christian church or are not yet baptized but wish to join, you are welcome to contact us for more information.

How is the Church of Sweden funded?

The church is funded through a membership fee called the "church tax," which is a small percentage of taxable income for members. This fee supports church activities, social work, music programs, and maintenance of historical churches. Non-members can also contribute through donations.
