Visby Cathedral Sankta Maria is open daily from 9 AM to 5 PM, with few exceptions.

Vinter and summer opening hours
January 1 – June 21:             9 am–5 pm
June 22 – August 16:           9 am–9 pm
August 17 – August 30:       9 am–7 pm
August 31 – December 31:   9 am–5 pm

Special Opening Hours
During services, funerals, baptisms, weddings, and concerts, accessibility may be limited.
During the main Sunday service (11 AM – approx. 12:30 PM), guided visits inside the cathedral are not possible.

Services and Concerts

The Cathedral’s main service takes place every Sundays and holidays at 11 AM. Visby Cathedral has also a rich musical life, including concerts and choirs for different ages. Concerts every Saturday at 11 am, a half an hour of music.

The Cathedral Shop

Welcome to Sankta Maria's Cathedral Shop, the small shop is located just inside the gates of Visby Cathedral. There you'll find a carefully selected range inspired by Visby Cathedral and our fantastic island of Gotland.

That’s to celebrate! All the year round!

The anniversary year 2025 started on New Year's Day, January 1st, under the heading Words and Tone. Then the events will follow each other throughout the year.

Hanseatic chest

The chest is a unique item in the Hanseatic history and has been kept in Visby Cathedral Sankta Maria for almost 800 years. According to a document from a guild in Dortmund it was named Saint Peter’s chest.

Hansa Organ Festival 5 – 8 June 2025

The idea behind the festival Visby Cathedral Parish came together with organists from Lübeck, Krakow and Visby to discuss the possibilities to introduce organ music as part of the program at the Hanseatic Day, 5-8 June 2025.
