BIV och BIS English

BIV and BIS are courses for children and young people who have arrived to Sweden as refugees.

Have you arrived to Sweden as a refugee, and are between 7 and 20 years old? Are you or your family awaiting asylum or have you recently been granted permanent residence in Sweden? Do you want to learn more about yourself, and share your experiences of coming to Sweden?

NOTE! Your parents and siblings are welcome to join you! They will have an
adult study group while you attend the course. For your smaller siblings we
offer free babysitting services.

The experience of being a refugee is a heavy burden to carry alone

Having been forced to leave your home country often creates a lot of stress for
you as a young person. You might have experienced war or natural disasters in your homeland, and a long journey as a refugee. Perhaps you have experienced
a long immigration-process here in Sweden, and you worry about being able to
stay or not. The uncertainty and nervousness can be hurtful and make you upset and even dreadful. And your parents and siblings probably share your experience and also feel sad and worried. This can be a heavy burden to carry for you.

BIV / BIS can help you to:

  • Realize that you are not alone.
  • Feel connected and meet other children and young people who have had
    similar experiences.
  • Understand that it is not your fault that you have been forced to flee and
that it is not your fault if your parents are feeling sad and worried.
  • Learn about the asylum and integration process.
  • Learn more about Sweden and the Swedish society.
  • Be able to show how you feel and talk about your feelings through for example picture, music and role play.
  • Be assured that you are a valued and precious just as you are.
  • Feel safe that what we talk about stays in the group.
