Archiving of Church Documents

The Swedish Lutheran Church in Washington, DC (SLCW) is collecting church memories for archival storage. We hope you want to help us remember.

SLCW is looking for memories and church papers that may have been stored in private homes over the years.

Instead of having a treasure of historical SLCW documents tucked away in private homes, where they may easily be forgotten and lost, the church board is looking at an option to collect them and store them at the Swensson's Center archival storage at Augustana College in Illinois. It is the largest Swedish Archive in the US and it currently stores materials from many Swedish organizations and church congregations.

We value our history as a congregation and are looking for original letters, minutes, reports, photographs, publications, and other documents both in physical and digital form. We also welcome the sharing of personal memories like video clips, films, scrapbooks and correspondence from baptisms, weddings and funerals. All these documents that former officers, volunteers, and members have produced and collected over the years, provide a unique testimony of the achievements of our church.

We need your help! Please check if you have any documents, official church papers, memories from SLCW-events, or other items that you would like to share, stored in your home. We would love to hear from you if you find something that you would like to share. Thank you in advance for your time and effort!
