The cathedral is an extremely popular destination, almost 300,000 visit the church in the heart of Visby every year. Services, concerts, guided tours, cultural events – the Cathedral is open for visitors daily 9 am-5 pm.
Throughout the centuries, Visby Cathedral Sankta Maria, remains a landmark
of the town and of the whole island of Gotland as well. Millions of people
have visited the church. Its walls hold innumerable thoughts and prayers.
Each generation has left its own expressions and so it is also today.

800 years of exciting history.
The Hansa Organ Project is a collaboration between several Hanseatic cities under the leadership of Sankta Maria Cathedral in Visby. The goal of the project is to publish an organ book with new compositions and to establish an organ festival.
All instruments in the church have their own history. The oldest organ is still in use even though it is by now 400 years old.
Above the central altar in the middle of the church there is an oak statue of Christ from the 13th century.

Everyone on this island, guests, associations, school classes, organizations, workplaces and private individuals are invited. (Ten) thousands of doves carrying messages of peace, hope and love. Together they form one big voice inside our beautiful 800 year cathedral.
