The Funeral of a stillborn child or of a child who has died at a very young age

    Take care of us , Lord, as we stand here close to despair with our grief and our questions. Be with to us as we mourn, that we be not tempted to abandon you Let your eternal light shine upon NN (alt: him). Give us the power to continue with our life trusing in your help In the name of Jesus

Homily

The Committal

         

The priest makes the sign of the cross on the coffin or lets three hand-fulls of earth fall on it, saying:

  P Our Father in heaven, We commit this child (alt: NN) to you. Take it into your arms bear it on your heart. through Jesus Christ. Amen.
          or
  P God, our Father, we entrust this child (alt: NN) into your hands.
         

The priest lets three hand-fulls of earth fall onto the coffin, saying:

  P From dust you came, to dust you shall return. Jesus Christ, our Saviour, shall raise you up on the last day
 

Bible Reading

  P Let us now listen to the words of Holy Scripture that assures us of God's safe-keeping in life and death.
         

The priest reads a few pasages from the Bible, chosen from the list on page X

 

The Lord's Prayer

         

The priest may say:

      Let us say the Lord's Prayer together:
  C Our Father, who is in heaven. Let your name be kept holy. Let your kingdom come. Let your will be done on earth as in heaven. Give us today our bread for the day to come. And forgive us our sins as we have forgiven those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom. the power and the glory are yours now and for ever. Amen. Our Father, who art in heaven. Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.
         

Depending on where the farewell takes place, the Funeral Service ends according to Alternative A or B

 

The Ending, alternative A

         

When the farewell takes place at the cemetary, the Funeral Service in church/crematorium chapel ends in the following way:

 

The Blessing

         

The priest may say:

      Receive the Lord's blessing.
  P The Lord bless you and watch over you. The Lord make his face shine upon you, and be gracious to you. The Lord look kindly on you and give you peace; In the Name of the Father, and of the Son + and of the Holy Spirit.
  C Amen.

Recessional music

         

may be ommitted

         

The coffin is carried out. At the graveside, the service continues as follows:

 

The Interment

         

The coffin is lowered into the grave. The mourners take their farewell.

 

Final Prayer

         

The priest goes to the graveside and reads the following or another final prayer.

  P Give him, o Lord, your peace and let your eternal + light shine upon him.
  C Amen.

      The Dismissal
         

may be ommitted.

      P Let us go in the peace of the Lord. Amen.
 

The Ending, alternative B

         

When the farewell takes place in church/crematorium chapel the Service ends in the following way:

The priest goes to the coffin and says this or another final prayer:

Facing the congregation, the priest may say:

      Receive the Lord's blessing.
  P The Lord bless you and watch over you. The Lord make his face shine upon you, and be gracious to you. The Lord look kindly on you and give you peace; In the Name of the Father, and of the Son + and of the Holy Spirit.
  C Amen.
