THE PREPARATION
Words of Preparation 1
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
And God said: "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness;
So God created man in his own image,
male and female he created them.
And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. (RSV)
When we are surrounded by evil and in great need,
let us remember that we have our source and origin in God
that God has made us to love as he loves,
and that God's love has come to us in Jesus Christ.
Therefore let us pray:
Words of Preparation 2
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
And God said: "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness;
So God created man in his own image,
male and female he created them.
And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. (RSV)
God has made us to love as God himself loves,
God's love comes to us in Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit.
When we fail, God wants to raise us up. Alt: restore us?
When we betray our origin and forget to whom we belong, God wants to bring us back.
When we have no more strength, God wants to give us strength.
Let us therefore turn to our Loving and Merciful God and pray:
Words of Preparation 3
Our God is a loving God, who meets us with mercy.
God seeks us when we are going astray,
and when we diminish our lives, God wants to restore us.
Let us therefore give voice to our sin and guilt
and with confidence come before the face of God,
trusting in God's power and grace.
Let us pray:

Penitential Prayers 1
C
I confess before you, holy and righteous God
that I have sinned in thoughts, words and deeds.
I have not loved you above everything,
I have not loved my neighbour as myself.
Through my sin, I am guilty of more evil than I can understand,
and I share in the world's rejection of you.
I therefore ask for help to acknowledge and to turn away from my sins.
Forgive me, for the sake of Jesus Christ.
Penitential Prayers 2
C
I confess before you, holy God
that I have sinned, often and in many ways
in thoughts, words and deeds.
Look with mercy on me
and forgive me, for Jesus Christ's sake,
all my sins.

Lord, listen to the silent confession of every heart:

Jesus is the Son of God. His blood cleanses us from all sin.

This I trust,

Penitential Prayers 3
C
Merciful God,
In Christ you have opened the way to you,
and in him you take away the sins of the world,
I pray,
Cleanse me, and I shall be clean,
Heal me, and I shall be whole,
Draw me to yourself, and my heart shall find peace.
Penitential Prayers 4
C
God, in your mercy, be gracious unto me,
and in your great mercy, take away all my sin.
For I have sinned against you,
and done what is evil in your sight.
Turn away your face from my sins,
and deliver me from my guilt.
Create in me a clean heart, O God
and make me a gain confident and strong.
Drive me not away from your presence,
and take not your Holy Spirit from me.
Let me rejoice in your salvation,
and make me follow you with a willing heart.

Penitential Prayers 5
C
I, a poor and miserable sinner
confess to you, holy and righteous God,
that I, who was sinfully born,
have committed manifold sins.
I have not loved you above all else,
nor my neighbour as myself.
Against you and your commandments have I sinned,
in thoughts, words and deeds.
I am only worthy of being expelled from your presence,
if you were to judge me as my sins deserve.
But, merciful heavenly Father, you have promised
to receive those who turn to you with mercy and grace.
You forgive them all that they have done or left undone.
In this I trust, as I now ask for forgiveness
for the sake of my Saviour, Jesus Christ.

You are holy, O Lord our God,
you hold the heavens and the earth in your hand.
We give you thanks
that you sent your Son to be the Saviour of the world.
He laid aside everything, he humbled himself
and became obedient unto death on the cross.
Therefore you have exalted him above everything
and given him the name that is above all names.
Come to meet us as we draw close to you
that we may receive
what you have done for us in Christ.
In the night that he was betrayed
he took the bread and gave you thanks,
he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying:
Take, eat.
This is my body
which is given for you.
Do this in remembrance of me.
He took the cup, gave you thanks
and gave it to his disciples, saying:
Drink ye all of this.
This cup is the new covenant in my blood
